Kadai paneer

Most popular Indian style vegetarian recipe using soft cottage cheese or paneer cooked in spicy gravy made with onion tomatoes, capsicum and Indian spices that goes well with rice or roties


  • Paneer -250 gms
  • Oil-2 tbs
  • Cumin seeds-1/2 tsp
  • Onion -2 large grated
  • Onion- 1 cubed and layers separated
  • Capsuicum- 1/2 cup diced
  • Tomato juice- of 2 large tomatoes
  • Ginger garlic paste 1 tsp
  • Kashmiri red chilli powder-2 tsp
  • Coriander powder-1 tsp
  • Dry fenugreek leaves(kasuri methi)-1/2tsp
  • Fresh cream 3 tbsp
  • Few Coriander leaves Finley chopped and
    Chopped spring onion for seasoning.


Heat oil in a pan and temper cumin seeds. Add ginger garlic paste and saute for a minute. Add coriander powder and chilli powder and fry for a minute.Add the grinded onion and fry till raw smell goes away. Add the tomato juice and mix well. Add a cup of water and bring it to boil until the gravy thickens.
In a separate pan saute diced onion, paneer and capsicum for 1 to 2 minutes add this to the gravy. Add cream and mix gently. Cover and cook for 2 minutes. Finally add coriander leaves and spring onion and mix gently cover and let it rest for 2 minutes.
