Ingredients:-
- Green-gram -1 cup
- water – 2 cups around to cook the green-gram
- 3-4 green chillies
- onion one big thinly sliced
- turmeric powder- 1 tsp
- salt to taste
- 3-4 shallots
- 3-4 garlic pods crushed
- 2-3 dry red chillies
- 1 tsp mustard seed
- 1 tsp jeera powder
- curry leaves
- 1/2 cup grated coconut
Method:-
Wash the green gram and soak it overnight or for at least 4-5 hours. When you soak the green gram you can cook it with 2-3 whistles and without soaking you’ll need 5-6 whistles of cooking time in pressure cooker.
In a pressure cooker add green grams, sliced onion, green chillies, turmeric powder, required water around 2 cups and salt to taste . Cover and cook for about two whistles.
To temper The curry, heat 2 tbsp oil in a small kadai,add mustard seeds and let it crackle. Add shallots, dry red chillies, grated coconut, jeera powder and curry leaves and stir it until shallots becomes translucent. Add it to cooked green gram and mix gently. Serve hot with hot kanji. It goes well with cooked chapatti’s, roti or Rice puttu.
